Many shootings have taken place in schools, workplaces, and houses of worship across the nation and around the world, and they continue to raise the issue of safety and security where people live, work, and play. While active violence continues to escalate, forward thinking executives and leaders are looking at safeguards that can be taken to protect their personnel and guests. But what is truly effective?

 

Utilizing specific case studies, details of truly effective violence mitigation strategies emerge. This workshop will explore ways to make existing facilities safer as well as how to: increase emergency preparedness, understand critical response, embrace lessons learned from tragedy, retain actions that increase survivability, and more.

 

Session sections include:  

 

History and Lessons Learned

During part one, we'll explore past events, utilizing accurate and specific data points, and discuss how lessons learned from tragedy should be shaping our future. Utilizing detailed case studies of historical events, attendees will learn about extremely important missteps during past events and how we can improve moving forward. History is our greatest educator.

 

D.E.F.E.N.D.

We will dive into the D.E.F.E.N.D acronym to give attendees specific and actionable steps to take during an active violence event. The steps are easy to learn, applicable in any location, and easy to recall during an emergency. 

 

Rapid Response Medical

The last phase transitions to trauma medical and pre-hospital care training. Often, victims of these attacks do not die instantly, but die quickly from massive blood loss. We incorporate hands-on bleeding control training into our curriculum for this very purpose. The training is designed for civilians and does not include any type of graphic imagery.
